Indications:

Severe malaria is caused by Plasmodium falciparum, in both children and adults. 

Dosage:

Sunat injection is administered by intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) routes at 0, 12 and 24 hours, then once daily until oral treatment can be substituted. 

  • For children > 20kg and adults: 2.4mg of artesunate/kg body weight 
  • For children < 20kg: 3.0mg of Artesunate/kg body weight 

Side Effects:

Hypotension, pruritus, oedema, dyspnoea, dizziness, light-headedness, rash, taste alteration, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and diarrhea
