Infant & child nutrition is fundamental to overall health of any community. In 2023, we entered the space of infant and child nutrition by partnering with British Biologicals. We launched Optilait, our collection of formula milks- infant formula, follow-on formula and growing up formula - with an aim that every baby in Africa receives adequate nutrition in their early formative years.

The acquisition of Orange Pharmaceutical in Kenya was a strategic move that strengthened our position in the Kenyan pharmaceutical market where we rose to be amongst the top 5 companies. Shalina Ghana Awarded Healthcare Provider of the Year 2022

The 5th Ghana Business Awards event took place in Accra, with a total of 200 companies participating, where a distinguished judging panel awarded Shalina Healthcare Ghana as Best Healthcare Provider of the Year. From humble beginnings in November 2009, we are now one of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in Ghana.

GERD is a major challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa with 17% prevalence, and approx. 200 million patients suffering from GERD at a point in time Shalcer helps as it is potent, rapid and long-lasting with longer night time acid control and lesser nocturnal acid breakthrough.

Nigeria Manufacturing Plant

Shalina Healthcare Nigeria Ltd. has started an Oral Solid Dosage manufacturing facility in Nigeria in 2021. The site locates at Isheri North, Along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, near Lagos. The plant is spread over a sprawling 6,100 sq. mts & currently has an annual capacity of 1.1 billion tablets & 120 million capsules. It is approved by NAFDAC and PCN.

ZAMRA approvals for Jejuri plant

Approval from ZAMRA (Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority) for the Jejuri Plant signifies that the facility has met the regulatory requirements set by ZAMRA in Zambia. This approval enables us to provide pharmaceuticals or medical products in the Zambian market, contributing to healthcare accessibility in the country.

Start of Kenya operations & Acquisition of PMC

Shalina operations in Kenya were officially announced in 2019, following the acquisition of PMC group. In attendance were pharmaceutical partners and government boards who play an important role in fulfilling the destiny of a dream for a healthier, happier African continent.

Launch of Cardiovascular Disease & Diabetes (CVD) products

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are often called “silent killers” because heart attacks and strokes are a common first warning sign of an underlying disease. According to the World Health Organization, its prevalence is estimated to be about 20 million in the African Region. With the launch of both Roshal and Teleshal, we further cemented our commitment to fighting cardiovascular disease.

Extension of Jejuri facility

Shalina announced the inauguration of its new ointment manufacturing facility on 3rd October, 2016 at its plant in Pune, India. The state-of-the-art ointment manufacturing facility will enhance our monthly production capacity of creams to 13 million tubes and lotions to 3 million bottles.

Launch of Shal'Artem

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to 95% of world malaria cases and 96% of malaria deaths. Launched in response to such a critical healthcare need, ShalÁrtem has been a cornerstone in the fight against malaria, offering a ray of hope to countless individuals. Its path mirrors a resolute dedication to playing a pivotal role in malaria control efforts throughout the continent.

Jejuri plant received approvals from FDA & starts R&D Facility

The Jejuri plant has received approvals from the FDA, indicating compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, it has initiated it's R&D facility, suggesting a commitment to research and development efforts, leading to the development of new products and improvements in existing ones.

Launch of L'Artem

Sub-Saharan Africa is home to 95% of world malaria cases and 96% of malaria deaths. Launched in response to such a critical healthcare need, L-Artem emerged as a potent anti-malarial solution in 2009. It was born from the urgent demand to combat the devastating impact of malaria.

Our manufacturing plant in Jejuri, Maharashtra, India is both WHO-cGMP compliant and approved by the regulatory bodies of the countries we supply to. WHO-cGMP compliance refers to adherence to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) guidelines.
Our WHO status fills us with pride, and we fully support their mission of advocating for healthcare accessibility for everyone to achieve the highest level of health and well-being.

In sub-Saharan Africa, inflammatory and fungal/bacterial skin infections are a pervasive health concern. Epiderm was launched with the intention of providing relief from these mixed skin infections. Its 3 Way Action formula serves as a versatile remedy for a wide spectrum of skin issues such as eczema, psoriasis, rashes, dermatitis, tinea infections, and more.

Launch of Tanzol

Tanzol (Albendazole) was launched as a convenient single dose treatment to fight all common worm infections which 1 in 2 children in Sub-Saharan Africa are prey to. Though tiny, these worms are known to lead to poor nutrition, anemia, poor growth in children, loss of income opportunities and social stigma.

With the start of operations in 1999, we now have 7 depots in Nigeria situated in Lagos, Ibadan, Onitsh, Aba, Kano, Abuja and Uyo. We have now risen to be amongst the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria.

Foundation of the company by Mr. Shiraz Virji in Kinshasa (DRC)

Shalina Healthcare was founded by Mr. Shiraz Virji in Democratic Republic of the Congo with the aim of providing and improving access to quality healthcare in Africa.

Ghana

Our Jejuri factory was audited and approved by Food & Drugs Authority, Ghana in 2009. Our initial operations in Ghana were limited to an import and re-export hub in Tema Free Trade Zone to service Ghana and other West African Countries.
